Bill Nighy is one of those low-key great actors that nobody notices, but everyone knows. You’ve seen him in all kinds of movies, from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy to Harry Potter. He gave some acting advice in the following video I’m including for Sci-Friday that’s motivation for everybody. There is no process, there’s nothing you can’t do as a creative person! Take a look.
Some might only find this interesting from an ‘acting professional’ perspective but I thought this line was significant: “Younger actors are manipulated in a certain way. It’s a matter of control, and they are made to feel that there some things that are out their range, or out of their reach. There’s nothing out of your range, or out of your reach.”
As potential writing professionals, this applies to us, too. Some people love to manipulate, say something is too big, too deep, too sensitive for you to tackle. Nonetheless, you know your truth as a writer, and if it’s the right thing to say: say it! Never let someone talk you out of your dreams.
Hope you enjoyed this discussion, please feel welcomed to dive down the rabbit hole of every other Sci-Friday I’ve published in the past couple years. Don’t forget to play Interactive Top Ten! Have a great weekend! 🙂
