Spotted this week – a hysterical Star Wars fan film made with Unreal Engine. I admit, I was a little skeptical at first, but ‘First Day’ just kept getting funnier and funnier as it went on. You’ll definitely want to enjoy this for Sci-Friday. Take a look:
As you might be aware, Unreal Engine is a game engine developed by Epic Games, first showcased in the 1998 first-person shooter game Unreal. Initially developed for PC first-person shooters, it has since been used in a variety of genres of games and has seen adoption by the film and television industry.
They’ve started using Unreal Engine to power greenscreen backdrops in your favorite productions (see Sci-Friday #69 – Scifi Cinematography) But you can also see small-scale pro creators like Peter Haynes using them on projects like his AFK miniseries ‘A Hole in the World.’
This level of disruption in the film-making world is nothing less than remarkable. I can’t wait to see what else Haynes and his crew come up with. For now, we can just celebrate this loveable tribute to lonely stormtroopers and their awful jobs. Please feel welcomed to dive down the rabbit hole of every other Sci-Friday I’ve published in the past couple years. Have a great weekend! 🙂
