Good morning and Happy Friday – grab your favorite hot beverage and watch as Chris Landreth Bends Your Head with ‘the end’:
I love films like these, they challenge and subvert your expectations about the nature of storytelling and self while exposing you to new dimensions of visual possibility. Chris Landreth explained later that he created this short film while at Alias/Wavefront (now Autodesk) to test out new facial animation software AW was developing at the time. The project ballooned in success, later being nominated for an Oscar the following year.
Others have praised his work, too: “The animation itself, grotesque yet beautiful, bursts with a kind of manic expressionism. You hardly know what’s going on, but slowly you realize, that’s the point … Watching Landreth’s films is like getting a shot of adrenaline into your imagination. It’s hard, as a filmmaker, to watch this film and not be terribly inspired by it.”
I hope you enjoyed how Chris Landreth bends your head with ‘the end.’ After you do that, please feel welcomed to dive down the rabbit hole of every other Sci-Friday I’ve published in the past couple years. I’ll post another Chris Landreth project next week. Have a great weekend! 🙂
