As a science fiction writer, sometimes you’ll finish something and go: “What Magazines Should I Submit To?” I combed through the Submission Grinder website to find this list of SFWA-recognized short story publishers. I hope you find them useful.
Galaxy’s Edge / Lightspeed / Uncanny / Nature: Futures / Escape Pod / Fantasy & Science Fiction (F&SF) / Daily Science Fiction / Clarkesworld / Cast of Wonders / Asimov’s Science Fiction / Apex Magazine / Analog Science Fiction & Fact
Here’s the deal – submission doesn’t guarantee publication. Just look at my list of published short stories – most of them end up as self-published after months of submittals to these different outlets. Persistence is key, short story authors grind on their two-thousand word shorts as much as any novelist grinds on their seventy-thousand word books. The point is, that if you’re serious about your craft, you have to do the work. These publishers will be a strong first step toward your success as a scifi author.
I’ve also published this list to the list of Free Author Tools – I hope you find them useful!
