Greetings – welcome to the Creative People Survival Guide – I’m a Scifi Author sharing tools that helped me deal with the stresses of being a creative professional. As I’ve navigated the process of getting paid for my creativity, I noticed that there were few/no resources that spoke directly to the heavy emotions that come from making art. Out of that realization, I started jotting down some notes for myself on how to survive and thrive, and I’m passing them along to you as part of my journey.
Section One – PreparationLearn why mental and emotional preparation are key to being a creative professional |
Section Two – Orientation and Internet Street SmartsTake in some valuable online interaction and ‘troll management’ tips |
Section Three – FeedbackDiscover how to manage your emotions when receiving feedback on your work |
Section Four – Cleaning Out Your GarageUnderstand how self-care and creative work go hand in hand |
These four sections cover different aspects of the creative professional process – from preparing yourself for your personal creative journey to having ‘Internet street smarts,’ how to receive feedback, and how to integrate self-care into your creative process. You’ll come away with some tools for challenges you’ll personally experience as a creative professional. I began work on this survival guide several years ago and now I’m updating it with new lessons learned that I think you’ll find helpful and insightful.
There are no classes to sign up for, no subscriptions to take out. This is a free public service I’m offering. There are many ‘minefields’ associated with creating art, and the Creative People Survival Guide is meant to help you navigate them with poise and confidence. People were kind enough to help me survive my creative professional journey – now it’s my turn to help you. We’ve been there, we got through it, and so can you.
